Experienced Structural Field Review Engineer

**Position Overview**:

As an Experienced Structural Field Review Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our projects are built to the highest standards of quality, safety, and design integrity. You will collaborate closely with our design and construction teams to review plans, monitor construction progress, perform site inspections, and provide expert guidance throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.

**Key Responsibilities**:

– Conduct comprehensive on-site inspections to verify compliance with approved plans, codes, and regulations.

– Collaborate with project teams to identify and address structural concerns, potential design modifications, and construction challenges.

– Analyze structural calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure alignment with project objectives.

– Provide technical expertise and recommendations to resolve structural issues in real-time.

– Prepare detailed reports documenting site visits, findings, and recommended actions.

– Participate in design and construction meetings to offer insights and solutions.

– Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

**Qualifications**:

– Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

– Registration with EGBC. Holding P.Eng. is an asset.

– Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering with a strong focus on field review and construction oversight.

– Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.

– Strong analytical skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.

– Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

– Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering accurate and reliable assessments.

– Proficiency in structural analysis software and CAD tools.

Intermediate Energy Modeler or Energy Analyst

Your New Opportunity

ROV Consulting Inc. has an immediate exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Energy Modeler or Energy Analyst to join our young, vibrant, service focused team in Kelowna. In this role you will be responsible for energy simulation services to represent the performance of buildings, and to evaluate and quantify the impact of policy, design, retrofit and operational decisions. You will be working closely with clients and professionals alike and provide clear communications both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Performing energy modelling for multi residential buildings, high-rise residential towers, commercial and institutional buildings;
  • Performing enhanced field review / energy audits and technical report writing;
  • Conducting building envelope/air tightness testing and commissioning;
  • Providing thermal bridging and thermal performance analysis; and
  • Communicating with clients, architects, developers, etc.

Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

  • 3 – 5 years’ of professional experience as whole building energy modeler and/or related mechanical HVAC design experience. At least 3 years of professional experience must be in Canada.
  • Completion of a Professional Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or an equivalent Building Science Professional Degree from a post-secondary institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in energy modelling using a variety of modelling software is essential.
  • Proven knowledge of current methodologies and design practices in building systems, architecture, engineering, and construction with particular emphasis on building envelope design and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with Energy Step Code implementation and modeling process.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in TRACE 3D and/or IES Virtual Environment and/or Design Builder is essential and/or demonstrated experience with other hourly dynamic building energy modelling software.
  • Demonstrated experience with energy modelling of HVAC systems and controls required.
  • Advanced understanding of energy model inputs and outputs; management and post-processing of energy model results with the ability to identify design impacts.
  • Deep understanding of applicable building and energy modelling codes in British Columbia.
  • Project management experience with the ability to plan task deliverables, develop scopes, and attend multiple projects simultaneously in an organized way.
  • Preferably a Certified Energy Adviser, or Certified Passive House Consultant/Certified Passive House Designer.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Sketchup and/or Revit. Use of PHPP, THERM (or similar), Rhino/Grasshopper/ Bug suite and the Adobe suite is desired but not required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the building community and various client groups.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with green building rating systems such as Zero Carbon Building Standard, Passive House, Embodied Carbon, LEED and/or the Living Building Challenge.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Residence.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Your New Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Envelope Consultant to join our team at ROV Consulting Inc. As an Envelope Consultant, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance and consultation on envelope design, construction, and performance for various construction projects. You will work closely with our team of engineers and energy modelers as well as our clients such as developers, architects, contractors, and project managers to ensure that envelope systems meet performance standards, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed inspections and assessments of building envelope systems, including curtain wall systems, insulation, roofing, stucco, windows, and waterproofing.
  • Evaluate energy efficiency and sustainable design aspects of building envelopes, recommending improvements and strategies to optimize performance.
  • Collaborate with our team of engineers and energy modelers as well as the project developers, architects, and contractors to evaluate and develop envelope design concepts for new construction and renovation projects.
  • Develop effective solutions for parkades and transfer of heat, air, and moisture through a building envelope.
  • Stay updated with industry standards, codes, and best practices related to building envelope design and construction.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations based on inspection findings, ensuring clarity and accuracy of information.
  • Advise on appropriate materials, systems, and installation techniques to enhance the durability and performance of building envelopes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing expert guidance and answering any technical questions or concerns related to building envelopes.

Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in building science, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working as an Envelope Consultant or a similar role in the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of envelope design principles, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct detailed evaluations and assessments.
  • Proficient in using envelope analysis software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make informed decisions.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Residence.
