Lake City Casino
ROV Consulting Inc. was involved in the retrofit to Lake City Casino at the Delta Grand.
The contractor had priced out the foundations as per the Calgary engineer and determined that the retrofit to the foundations needed to hold the 2 additional stories of the parkade would cost approximately 2.5 million dollars. The contractor came to us and asked if there was a way of engineering something that would cost a lot less. Our suggestion was to use Helical Piers to retrofit the footings. We did the engineering and it was checked by the 7 other engineers who were involved in the project. The fix that we proposed was to drill a 16 inch diameter core out of the 3ft thick footings on 1,2,3 or 4 sides of the 1 x 2 ft columns. Helical piers were inserted in the hole and augured down 176 ft, which a connection was made to the underside of the footing. We load tested each pile to 256,000#. The total cost was only $650,000. The owner and other engineers were extremely pleased with our firm.
